Prairie Swim Paddles To Victory

Rivalry swim teams compete side by side in this week’s meet, Prairie vs. Battle Ground. Junior Calise Hahn gives the inside scoop on how the girls swim team prepares for such a demanding event. The team practices every weekday at Clark County YMCA, having to be out at the water by 2:40 to warm-up. The girls make sure to rest and nourish themselves with plenty of food and water the day prior to an event, Hahn says. Despite this being a rivalry meet, Hahn says “I’m not too nervous. I’m eager since it’s at home.”

Junior Aliyah Dodge was one of the twelve swimmers competing in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a final result time of5:11:30, giving them a spot in seventh place. Dodge and fellow teammate, Kenzy Ward, set their own Personal Records that day; a great accomplishment for the team. The biggest issue the team faces is having to beat their own personal records; fighting hard to improve their own times and advance as a team, Dodge said. As for how the team did overall, Dodge feels they did very well. When asked what the overall difficulty was for this years rivalry meet, Dodge claims that the only difficult task presented was trying to fight their own times and enhance their skills. With large goals in mind, the team has their eye on the prize; a state title.
