Seniors pose together after a color wars win!

For the first time in four years, Prairie High School put on the long-awaited color wars. Color Wars starts off with a week full of spirit days and ends with an assembly that is a competition to determine the most spirited class here at Prairie. ASB plans games and special performances for entertainment that includes both students and staff members. This year’s color wars took place on March 30, 2023, the Friday before students were released for spring break.

Senior Bryce Phillips was eager to participate in his first-ever color wars assembly game. “This was my one and only chance to get to participate in a color wars game and I wasn’t going to miss out on that chance,” said Phillips. Phillips participated in the “table surfing” game which consisted of multiple students from each grade level rolling on the ground continuously while another student was on top of a table that was placed on top of the other students. The seniors took the win and gave the seniors a lead going into the next game. “Color wars is so important because it really brings all the classes together to compete against each other.” Bryce hopes that future color wars are full of “competitiveness” and “fun games that get everyone involved.”

Jackson Kimball is a freshman here at Prairie and he got to experience his very first color wars week. Kimball got the participate in a game during this year’s color wars assembly. Kimball shared that the reason he wanted to participate in a game was that he wanted to “get some of his competitiveness out and try to win some points for the freshman.” For future color wars, Jackson hopes we get to continue to be competitive by playing games and getting everyone to participate. “The energy and atmosphere were super positive the whole time.” Jackson is excited to join in on future assembly games and hopes they improve as the years go on.

Color Wars week ended strong with the seniors winning the most spirited class. The fight over the color of the rock was back and forth all week but ended on Friday when the seniors camped out during the 5th period and kept the rock painted red. This year’s color wars set a precedent for the upcoming years and the underclassmen are hopeful that the years to come will continue to improve.
